I finally got annoyed enough at the state of Warhammer Vault to sit down and write a script to archive the whole thing as regular PDFs I can read on my iPad without it crashing
Notes
it’s so humid and warm here today going outside feels like you’re breathing soup
Somehow, despite not consciously listening to more than maybe 5-6 Bob Dylan songs in my lifetime, my 2011 music library contains FORTY FIVE Bob Dylan albums
Spending the morning reorganising and cleaning the metadata of my recovered music files. How very rock and roll.
I finally managed to get connected to my old NAS via samba, so I’m able to rsync all my old files down off of it somewhat efficiently. It’s got a time-capsule backup of my old iTunes library, circa 2011, which will be fun to dig through…
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen someone make this comment before, but: the XKCD “compiling!” comic, only it’s waiting for an “AI assistant” to complete…
It would kinda sum up my day pretty accurately, tbh.
One thing I want to do with a new NAS is get our physical media libraries ripped and shared to the house via Jellyfin. Half our streaming subscriptions are so my partner can access old shows she loves. Old boxsets are cheap!
I have a ~15 year-old, 1-disk NAS I want to replace, as the only (working) way to access it now is a shitty web UI. Looking at new ones and -ooft- the good choices got expensive while I wasn’t looking 😔
On the one hand: a new Tron film with a soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails; on the other: it’s got Jared Leto and an unappealing plot hook.
I wanted to buy some replacement short USB-C cables, while trying to avoid Amazon. It was far harder than it should have been. Most retailer websites suck, their available selections suck, and Amazon dominates search results. Eventually I got something “almost” what I wanted, but for ~25% more and a bunch of lost time. Did other retailers just give up over the last decade?
I really hope Army Painter start selling singles of the paints from the John Blanche sets soon, because “Grimdark Shadow” might just be my favourite shade/wash paint ever and I need to stock up…
I tried my first Tim Hortons today. Canada, you really should be making a bigger deal about it than you are — it was pretty great. If my nearest was more convenient to get to I’d pick it over Starbucks any time.
I’ve got a slightly longer weekend coming up. My plan was: build and paint miniatures. But I’m getting tempted to play Assassin’s Creed: Shadows instead…
Opened Signal for the first time in ages and was sad to find I’d not been added to any secret governmental group chats. I feel left out now.
Oh, hey, the 1Password to Bitwarden/Vaultwarden migration has improved massively since I last tried it. Guess I might finally be switching.
Sitting on the sofa and letting out an “awww fuck, it’s only Tuesday” because it’s been that sort of week where each day feels like a whole week in itself
Argh. When I left to go to the dentist, next door’s builders had started putting in their new driveway, so there was a lot of noise on one side of the house, but it was bearable. Now I’m back and the other neighbour has started some very loud DIY too 😭
Got a faster internet connection this week. Gonna try self-hosting a website or two off a spare rPi, see how feasible it is.
Just got an unexpected delivery – work sent me a box of chocolates for a job well done on a recent project. That’s the Saturday night treats sorted!
The UX of the latest update to the YouTube app on the Apple TV is so frustratingly bad I voluntarily took time out of my Saturday morning to look up and fill out the user feedback form.
I have a feeling I’m going to build another iOS app that’s just for my own use — time for blog publishing. It would pair well with the APIs I’ve built recently and make mobile publishing much slicker.
OF COURSE the fridge has chosen to pack in the day after getting a big shop 😩
The Thunderbolts* trailers are all looking good so far, and I liked the latest (https://youtu.be/GUmSO7nh4Sw) a lot. I really hope they stick the landing.
I’m not saying Hitman: World of Assassination is the perfect video game for this moment, but a hell of a lot of the in-game targets are billionaires and the ultra-wealthy…
Today can be summed up as: I’m tired, and I want some chicken.
