First impressions of my first Mac in just over a decade are “mixed”. The hardware’s lovely, the OS is… proving less so. I need to get it fully set up and tweaked, but it’s felt like a struggle just to do the few basic things I’ve done so far.

Anyway, I’m tempted to get a Mini. I’ve always liked them, and I have a few things I’d like to do in the New Year where it would be handy to have access to a Mac — and I’m certainly not in the market for a new laptop yet.

I was kinda surprised how big (relatively) the Mac Mini M4 is in person. Compared to the marketing pictures at least, which make it look positively tiny. The proportions reminded me a lot of the Mini I had in 2006, just half the size.

Digging in, the stats in Apple Music Replay seem… odd? Wrong? There’s a bunch of months I apparently didn’t reach some listening threshold for them to count, and some of the maths doesn’t math. My partner’s stats seem even weirder, given her listening habits.

Interviewed for a new role at my org today (adjacent to my current role, so the management know me). Their opening sentence, before I’d even said anything: “the role is yours if you want it.”

Can’t decide if that’s a big endorsement of the work I’ve been doing, or a massive red flag.
